Obituary for Dorothy "Dottie" (Vreeland) Smock
Dorothy J. “Dottie” (Vreeland) Smock, 85, of Springfield, passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2008. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the daughter of the late Sylvester and Celia Vreeland, she has lived in the Ludlow and Springfield area for over 40 years. Dorothy worked for over 10 years as a caregiver for the disabled at Monson Developmental Center. She also enjoyed sewing and was the treasurer for many years for her former residence association; but most of all Dottie will be remembered for being a wonderful friend and always being there when someone needed her. Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late Max A. Smock, who predeceased her in 1981; a loving mother to Max Smock Jr., of West Springfield, Doreen Douglas and her husband Charles, of Springfield, and the late Terry Smock; loving mother-in-law to Cindy Smock, of CT; a dear sister to the late June Kooistra; a cherished grandmother to Cathy Smock, of CT, and Cheri Loyd, of NJ; and also leaves several other loving family members and dear friends. Graveside services will be held at Island Pond Cemetery on Wednesday, January 23 at 2:00pm. There are no Calling Hours and Ludlow Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
