Obituary for Douglas B. Nilson
Douglas B. Nilson, 65, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 8th in the comfort of his home after a courageous battle with bladder cancer. Born in Springfield, son of the late Bertil and Mabel (Larson) Nilson, he spent his youth in East Longmeadow and was a 1968 graduate of East Longmeadow H.S. before settling in Ludlow. Doug proudly served in the Army National Guard receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1994. He worked for many years at the former Milton Bradley and then retired from Sweet Life Foods after 25 years of service. Upon retirement, he worked for Big Y Corp. serving the Springfield area. Doug was the beloved husband of 44 years to Florence “Floss” (Lovern) NIlson; a loving father to Brian Nilson, of Pittsfield, and the late Jeffrey D. Nilson, who predeceased him in 2015; a cherished grandfather to Hannah and Jason Nilson, of Ludlow, Jennifer Nilson, of Philadelphia, and River Carbone, of Maine; a dear brother to Joyce Templeman, of Monson, and the late Ann Magill and Robert Nilson; a dear brother-in-law to Walter Lovern, of Chicopee, and also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Doug's family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses of Mercy Hospice for the wonderful comfort care that they provided. At Doug’s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services and Ludlow Funeral Home has been entrusted with his care.
