Douglas Jaciow, 75, of adventurous spirit and infectious joy, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, innovation, and boundless enthusiasm for life's grandest experiences.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Lin (Boulrice) Jaciow; his son, Brent; and his sisters, Carol and Tina, all of whom were blessed by his irrepressible zest for living and his unique ability to transform any ordinary moment into something memorable.
A man who believed life was meant to be lived boldly, Doug was equally at home on the rugged trails of the Appalachian Mountains as he was carving down the majestic slopes of the European Alps.
For over 40 years, he dedicated himself to the Pan Mass Challenge as a rider and volunteer, conquering the 200-mile bike ride across Massachusetts in support of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; a cause close to his heart and a testament to his enduring commitment to making a difference.
His love for adventure was matched only by his commitment to bringing joy to those around him. Whether arriving at a gathering in outrageous hats or colorful tights that would make others think twice, Doug never missed an opportunity to spark laughter and lift spirits. He was, quite simply, the life of every party he graced.
Behind his playful exterior lay a man of remarkable discipline and achievement. A black belt in Judo, Doug embodied the balance of strength and grace, always approaching challenges with focus and determination. This same precision defined his professional life, where he became a pioneering leader in laboratory services, instrumental in introducing robotics to the field and forever changing the landscape of diagnostic medicine.
Yet for all his accomplishments, Doug's greatest gift was his presence—the way he made everyone feel welcome, valued, and alive. He could be found with his signature Diet Coke, always accompanied by a full glass of ice (the only proper way, in his view), or occasionally raising a rum and Coke in celebration of life's simple pleasures.
Doug Jaciow was a man who wore wild hats and lived an even wilder life—in the very best sense. He climbed mountains, conquered slopes, and elevated everyone he met. His smile was a constant, his spirit indomitable, and his impact immeasurable.
In a world that often takes itself too seriously, Doug reminded us all to embrace adventure, to dress with abandon, to laugh without reservation, and to live with heart wide open. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered as someone who truly knew how to live.
