Obituary for Earl Gregory
Earl Gregory, 85, longtime former resident of Springfield passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2015. Born in Springfield to the late Harold and Agnes (Purchase) Gregory, he was raised and educated in Ludlow, was a 1947 graduate of Ludlow High School and Graduated from AIC in 1959. Earl served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, he served in the 2nd Infantry Division, mostly above the 38th parallel. He completed Basic training and Radio School at Fort Dix, NJ, and sang in the Fort Dix Choir. Earl had the honor of singing at the Washington National Cathedral and the United States Embassy in Washington. For his dedicated service to his country Earl received many awards including the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Korean Service Medal. Earl enjoyed singing, he was trained under the tutelage of South Congregational Church’s soloist, Ruth Eckberg and was invited to sing Bass at South Congregational Church and also sang with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra. Earl will be sadly missed by all the people whose lives he touched including his cousin Roland Purchase and wife Marlene of Chicopee, his several caring cousins and a large group of friends including his fellow members of the South Congregational Church in Springfield.



Funeral services for Earl will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Visiting hours will we held at the Ludlow Funeral Home, 432 East Street, in Ludlow from 10:00am-11:00am followed by a Chapel Service at 11:00am with Reverend Tom Gerstenlauer officiating, burial with Military Honors, will follow at Island Pond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers it was the wish of Earl’s Family that donations be made in his name to the Holyoke Soldiers Home, 110 Cherry St. in Holyoke, 01040. A memorial service celebrating Earls life will be on Sunday February 8th, 2015 at 2:00pm at South Congregational Church, 45 Maple Street in Springfield followed by a reception in the Guild Room.
