Edith (Babcock) Grass, aka Nana, 93, of West Springfield, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Oakfield, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Ruth (McLaughlin) Babcock and lived most of her life in West Springfield. She worked for many years as an RN at Baystate Medical Center until her retirement at age 65 at which time she continued to work per diem 3 to 4 days a week until age 75. Her hobbies included tag saling, birdwatching, and having tea with her friends, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Throughout her life, Edith took in many children and put a roof over their heads while also helping them financially. Edith was the beloved mother of Barry Grass, of FL, Shirley DeSimone and husband Michael, of Ludlow, Christine Walker and husband Dennis, of West Springfield, and the late Sandra Tower, who was like a daughter to her, and her husband Paul; a loving grandmother to Kimberly McDonald and husband Jim, L. Anthony Spryzenski and wife Lora, Nichole Cave and partner Nick, Jamie DeSimone and partner Dalton, Shannon Grass and partner Polly, and Sandra’s children Katelyn and Bobby Tower; a cherished great-grandmother to Gino Guiel, Bella Spryzenski, and Ryan, Devin, and Logan Cave; a dear sister to the late Delia Young and Helen Brewer; and also leaves many loving extended family members and friends. Visiting hours for Edith will be held on Wednesday, June 21st from 4:00-6:30pm in Ludlow Funeral Home concluding with a Celebration of Life Service at 6:30pm. Additional funeral services will be held privately by her family and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edith’s memory to Second Chance Animal Services Adoption Center (www.secondchanceanimals.org)
