Obituary for Edna (Gates) White
Edna (Gates) White, 99, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at home on May 3, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Ludlow, daughter of the late Herbert and Harriot (Hatch) Gates, she was a lifelong resident where she was a graduate of Ludlow High School and devoted member of the First Congregational Church. Following high school, Edna went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Bryant College, was a teacher for 3 years for the Ludlow Public Schools, and then worked as executive director for 18 years at Home Information Center in East Longmeadow from where she retired. Upon retirement, she worked for Springfield Hobby Club and spent her days enjoying her many hobbies including watching the Boston Red Sox, Bruins, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy. Edna was talented at sewing and needlepoint and formerly repaired textiles and heirlooms for the Amherst College Museum. She was also an active member of the Ludlow Senior Center where she was a member of their quilting club, and planned travel and tours for the seniors. She also loved going to the beach, especially Hampton Beach, and had a passion for traveling all over the United States and the World even well into her 90’s. Edna was the beloved wife of the late Gerald White; a loving mother to Fay LaBrecque and late husband Browning, and Jerry Richard White and wife Lillian; a devoted grandmother to Renee (Peter), Aimee (Brian), Desiree (Michael), Leah (Nick), Peter (Andrea), Sarah (Scott); a cherished great-grandmother to Ryan, Emerson, Ethan, Kellan, Ruby, Anderson, Parker, Hunter, Cooper, and Mark; a dear sister of the late Donald and Edward Gates; and also leaves many loving extended family members and dear friends. Visitation for Edna will be on Thursday, May 5th from 5:00-7:00pm in Ludlow Funeral Home. Funeral is on Friday May 6th with visitation beginning at 9:15am concluding with a Celebration of Life Service at 10:00am followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edna’s memory to The First Church in Ludlow or Friends of the Ludlow Senior Center.
