Obituary for Edward "Eddie" DaSilva
Edward (Eddie) Goncalves DaSilva, 59, of Ludlow passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospital surrounded by his loving brothers and niece on Monday, August 7, 2023. Born in Seiros, Portugal he has lived in Ludlow since 1967 and was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. He was the beloved son of the late Fernando DaSilva and Aline Silva who predeceased him in 2014 & 2017. Eddie leaves his loving brothers Dominic DaSilva of Ludlow, Joseph DaSilva of Ludlow, and his sister Dee DaSilva of Palm Coast; his cherished niece Michelle Goncalves of Ludlow and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Eddie had many passions, one of which was fishing with his close friend Doug. He was employed at the original Ludlow Boys and Girls Club where he served in many capacities and inspired/influenced a lot of youths and adults in his time there. His love and passion for youth sports led him to a lifetime commitment of volunteering and coaching in various organizations throughout the community – Ludlow baseball, football, soccer, etc. Some of his fondest memories was his involvement in many of the Ludlow High School Boys’ Varsity soccer team state championships and being the Honorary Coach in the Ludlow youth football super bowl championships. In addition to the above, Eddie was the recipient of many community awards - Ludlow Boys and Girls Club volunteer of the Year, 2021-2022 Massachusetts Secondary Schools Athletic Directors Association (MSSADA) Joao Rodrigues Distinguished Service Award District 1, and the most prestigious of them all was the Ludlow High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022 – Recipient of the William Kolodziey Contributor Award.
Funeral services for Eddie will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023, from the Ludlow Funeral Home. Visiting hours are from 8:15 to 10:15 AM with a Liturgy of Christian Mass celebrated at 11 AM in our Lady of Fatima Church, followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Eddie’s name to: Ludlow Football Association, P.O. Box 4, Ludlow, MA 01056.
