Edwin J. Leary, Jr, 87, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at home on April 25, 2025 with his loving family by his side. Edwin was the son of the late Edwin and Edna (Bail) Leary and was a graduate of Cathedral High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy proudly serving his country from 1956-1959. Edwin was a devoted family man who dedicated his life to loving and protecting his loved ones. He enjoyed spending time outdoors working around the house, tending to his yard, and creating a beautiful home for his family. He also loved taking care of the birds that frequented his many feeders, watching sports, and reading. He loved traveling and he shared his love of the ocean with his family, especially the Marginal Way.
Edwin was the beloved husband of 66 years to Auzenda “Zenda” (Alves) Leary; a loving father to Donna Leary-Arnold and late husband Dennis, of Ludlow, and Ed Leary and wife Liz, of Belchertown; a devoted grandfather to Brianne Arnone (Joe), Kaitlyn Stewart (Ase), Eddie Leary (Kelly), Dan Leary (Lizeth), and Megan Leary; a cherished great-grandfather to Aliyah, Jack, Matthew, Jase, and the late Kalib; a dear brother to Virginia, Madeline, Anne, Susan, Robert, Daniel, and the late Thomas, William, Christine, and Theresa; and also leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. He also leaves his favorite mischievous cat Ollie to watch over the house.
Funeral services for Edwin will be held on Friday, May 2nd. Visiting hours are from 9:00-10:15am at Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Parish followed by burial with Military Honors in Island Pond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edwin’s memory to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org)
