Obituary for Elias "Teta" Costa
Elias “Teta” Costa, 75, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2008, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Ludlow, the son of the late Elias and Encarnacao (Lopes) Costa, he was a 1951 graduate of Ludlow High School where he excelled in many sports.  Elias was a United States Army Veteran serving his country honorably during the Korean Conflict.  He worked for over 20 years for Bruschi Brothers Construction and then for many years at S.T.C.C. before retiring.  As a longtime former member of Ludlow Country Club, he was an avid golfer who was well known for his low scores including winning many 4-ball golf tournaments in the area.  He was once a medalist in our State Amateur Golf Tournament.  He was also a member and former soccer player for the Lusitano Club and a member of the Lusitano Alumni and Fans.  He loved the beach, as well as his weekend getaways and Saturday night dinners with his wife.  Elias was the beloved husband to Marsha L. (Berthiaume) Costa; a loving father to Mavis Wanczyk, of Springfield, Jocelyn Dupre and her husband Louis, also of Springfield, and Shanna Sutton and her husband Michael, of Chicopee; a cherished grandpa and “pa” to Marlee and William Wanczyk and Gavin and Brady Sutton; a dear brother to Albert ”Lefty” Costa and his wife Alice, Sarah Lucas and her husband Paul, all of Ludlow, Lucille daSilva and her husband Armando, of Southwick, Mary Manchester and her late husband John, of Lady Lakes, FL, and the late John “Popeye” Costa and Fernando “Bayles” Costa.  Elias also leaves his devoted mother-in-law Marjorie Berthiaume, of Springfield, his sister-in-law Celeste Costa, of Ludlow, as well as many other loving family members and dear friends.  Funeral services are on Monday morning at 8:45 from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Sacred Heart Church, Springfield followed by burial with Military Honors in Calvary Cemetery, Chicopee.  Visitation is on Sunday evening from 4-8pm and, if desired, donations may be made in Elias’ memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation 220 N. Main St. #104, Natick, Ma. 01760.
