Obituary for Emidio Cerqueira
Emidio Cerqueira, 62, of Ludlow passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Saturday September 8th, 2012 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Born in Vilar de Ganfei, Valenca, Portugal to Candido Cerqueira and the late Adelia (Fontes) Cerqueira he moved to Newark, New Jersey in 1973 before finally settling in Ludlow in 1990. Emidio was a proud member of both the Ludlow and Chicopee Portuguese Clubs, a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and an avid “Sportinguista”. He was a manager at Triunfo in Chicopee for many years and enjoyed winemaking and hosting parties and get-togethers with his family and friends. He will be missed by his beloved wife of 38 years Silvina (Viana) Cerqueira of Ludlow; loving children Helder Cerqueira of Ludlow and Daisy Cerqueira of Peabody; caring sisters Maria Isabel Moreira and her husband Fernando and Maria Alice Cerqueira all of New Jersey; cherished god-daughter Helena Smith and husband Shane, nieces Patricia Matos and husband Rui and Susana Moreira, his nephew Fernando Moreira as well as several loving great-nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family and friends in Ludlow, New Jersey and Portugal. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday September 12, 2012 at 9:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Church at 10:00 with interment in Island Pond Cemetery Visiting hours are Tuesday evening from 5:00-8:00pm and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Emidio‘s name to: Mass General Hospital Cancer Care, 165 Cambridge Street, Suite 600, Boston, MA. 02114.
