Obituary for Ermina (Silva) Marques
Ermina (Silva) Marques, 98, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2019 with her loving family by her side. Born in Ludlow, daughter of the late Marcelino and Helena (Afonso) Silva, she was a lifelong resident and 1939 graduate of Ludlow High School. Ermina worked at Smith and Wesson for 19 years before retiring in 1985, and was also a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, also belonging to its’ former Ladies Guild; a member and volunteer for many years at the Ludlow Senior Center and Senior Citizens Club, and a member of the former Portuguese American Citizens Club; but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. Ermina was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence Marques who predeceased her in 2004; a loving mother to Susan Ribeiro and husband Lionel, of Ludlow, and the late Elena de Jong and her widower Neil “Kees” de Jong; a cherished grandmother to Matthew Ribeiro and wife Marianne, Jeffrey Ribeiro, and Ashley de Jong and companion Cory Jervis; and great-grandmother to Mia and Maddox; a dear sister to the late Marcellino Silva; and also leaves several nephews and nieces, including Judy Silva, of FL, many loving extended family members, and dear friends. Funeral services for Ermina will be held on Monday, April 22nd. Visiting hours will be from 8:30-10:15 in Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Donations may be made in Ermina’s memory to the Friends of the Ludlow Senior Center 37 Chestnut St. Ludlow, Ma. 01056.
