Obituary for Eugene J. 'Gene' Burek
Eugene J. "Gene" Burek, 79, of Indian Orchard, died peacefully on March 16, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Wilbraham, son of the late Stanley and Honorata (Giza) Burek, he lived most of his life in Indian Orchard. Gene worked for 15 years at Westinghouse M & R and then for 28 years as a correctional officer at the CT State Prison in Somers before retiring. He was also an avid golfer at Westover C.C., loved vegetable and flower gardening, making pierogi for his family on Christmas and Easter, and took great pride in spending time with his loving family; especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gene was a beloved husband of 60 years to Carolyn (Brudjuk) Burek; a loving father to Theresa Lamas and husband Domingos, Peter Burek and wife Marsha, Paul Burek and wife Loretta, Stephen Burek and wife Edith, Thomas Burek and wife Lynn, and Christine Mascaro and husband Randy; a cherished grandfather to Shauna, Stacey, Jonathon, Ashley, Adam, Carolyn, Michael, Stephen, Kristen, Jason, Erek, Jared, Amber, and Shelby, a cherished great grandfather to Ethan, Hunter, Keenan, Finleigh, and Bryson; a dear brother to Amelia "Millie" Charron, and the late Walter, Burton, John, Edward, Frank, Theodore, and Irene Burek, Viola Morin, Rose Beiser, Jane Ptaszkiewicz, and Phyllis Makowiec; and also leaves several loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 12:30 pm in Ludlow Funeral Home followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Wednesday from 4-7pm and preceding the funeral from 11:45-12:15am.
