Obituary for Evio Jose Aguiar

Evio José Aguiar, 75, passed away unexpectedly on June 15, 2025, in Teloes, Portugal. Born on April 15, 1950, in Teloes, Vila Pouca de Aguiar, Portugal, he was the cherished son of the late José Antonio Aguiar and Lucinda De Jesus Aguiar. In June 1969, Evio married the love of his life, Laura, and together they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. In 1980, they immigrated to Ludlow, Massachusetts, where they built a beautiful life for their family. Evio worked for many years at Gomes Construction until his retirement. He was very proud of his time served in the Portuguese Military in Mozambique, Africa—an experience he often reflected on with honor and deep pride. Following retirement, Evio and Laura frequently traveled back to Portugal, where they spent treasured time with family and friends. He had a deep love for gardening, cultivating bountiful crops and making his own wine, which he joyfully shared with neighbors and loved ones. Nothing made him happier than working in his garden and sharing the fruits of his labor. Though Portugal became their home again, Evio and Laura returned to Ludlow each holiday season to be with their children, grandchildren, and extended family. While in Ludlow, Evio also enjoyed spending time with his close friends. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing, especially with his dear friend Jack. Their time together brought him great joy. He also enjoyed helping his friend John in his auto shop, something he did often to pass the time and share in good company. The family will always be grateful to Jack and John for their friendship, kindness, and patience. Evio is survived by his devoted wife, Laura (Fernandes); his loving daughter Lucy Saloio (Jim); and his cherished grandchildren Breanna Wilcox (Jordan), Lauren, and Michael. He also leaves behind his beloved son Joe (Lisa), and grandchildren Ava, Joseph, Jack, and Ava. In addition, he is remembered with love by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Evio also leaves behind his beloved dog, Fusco, who will miss him deeply. Fusco and Dad were truly two of a kind, and we often joked that Dad loved him more than he loved us. Funeral services and burial for Evio were held in his hometown of Telões, Portugal. He was laid to rest in the town’s local cemetery. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all of our family and friends for the cards, flowers, food, mass donations, and your continued support here and in Portugal during this difficult time.
