Ezaura “Hazel” (Pereira) Dias, 97, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Ludlow, daughter of the late Francisco and Albertina (Andre) Pereira, she was a graduate of Ludlow High School and worked for Ludlow Textiles for many years before retiring.
Ezaura loved watching her grandchildren (and great grandchildren) play sports. She was also fond of taunting her late husband Americo when her beloved Miami Dolphins defeated his beloved NY Giants. And when it was time for spaghetti and meatballs, there was only one person you wanted making the meatballs; Ezaura’s recipe will be passed down for generations to come. Most importantly, the number of candles she lit on her family’s behalf provided that mysterious invisible hand to let us know she was thinking about and supporting us.
While her name translates to “gentle breeze,” Ezaura was closer to a stiff wind. She was a fair yet firm woman, who cherished time with family. Her strength and constitution set an example for all of those who spent time with her.
Hazel was the beloved and devoted wife of 71 years to the late Americo “Scorpy” Dias, until his passing in 2017. She is survived by her daughter Madeline Duarte and husband Fred Duarte, of Bridgewater, MA, her son Bruce Dias of Ludlow, MA and her beloved grandchildren Melanie Duarte of Rehoboth, MA and Adam Duarte of Darien, CT, and her ever beloved great grandchildren, Will, Anna, and Emma Duarte of Darien, CT., her sister in law Dorothy Dolly Pereira, as well as many nieces and nephews. Hazel was predeceased by her brothers; Francisco, Porfirio, Antonio and her two sisters, Gloria Fonseca and Carme (Connie) Esteves.
Visiting hours for Ezaura will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 from 9:15am-10:15am at Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Parish followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Donations may be made in Ezaura’s memory to Our Lady of Fatima Parish.
