Obituary for Felicidade Mateus
Felicidade Mateus, 98, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on March 12. She was born in Benedita, Portugal to Francisco Galinha and Maria Bernardina. Felicidade was one of 10 children. Married to Joaquim Mateus for 55 years, they had 10 children before immigrating to America in 1972, settling in Indian Orchard, MA. Their home on Main Street was the hub of all family gatherings for years before they returned to Portugal and spent years traveling between both countries before Felicidade’s return to America in 1999. She was the matriarch of a large family that in addition to her 10 children, included 27 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Felicidade was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Ludlow, MA. She was predeceased by her husband in 1999 and her daughter-in-law Eduarda Mateus in 2008. Felicidade is survived by her loving children António (Celeste), Trindade (António), Alice (Joaquim), Manuel (Graciete), Isabel (Delfim), Lúcia (Azevedo), José (Ana), Joaquim( Maria Lourdes), Fernando, Avelino (Mary), her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and her sister Maria Teresa (tia menicha) of Portugal. The family would like to thank the staff of Life Care Center in Wilbraham for their years of kindness and support. Funeral services for Felicidade will be held on Friday, March 17th. Visitation is from 9:00-10:15am in Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Parish followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
