Obituary for Florinda (Dias) Cheria

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Florinda Dias Cheria, who departed this world on May 19 th surrounded by her husband and loving family. Born in Sabroso de Aguiar, Portugal, on August 21, 1938 she was the third child of Maximiano Dias and Olimpia Machado Dias (both predeceased). She was a devoted wife to husband Fernando who she married in 1961 and with whom she recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. Florinda was the epitome of selflessness, kindness, and piety. Her boundless love and dedication to her family were unmatched. She was the rock of the family, guiding us with her unwavering strength and wisdom. Her tireless efforts, whether in nurturing her children or supporting her loved ones were a testament to her indefatigable spirit and energy. She led by example, always seeing the good in others and encouraging us to do the same. Her ability to bring out the best in everyone was truly angelic. Florinda was more than just a mother, sister and wife; she was a beacon of love, faith, and hope whose legacy will forever be cherished in our hearts. Among her many passions, Florinda had a profound love for singing. She was a cherished member of Our Lady of Fatima choir where her voice brought joy and solace to many. Her devotion to her faith was exemplified by her numerous pilgrimages to Fatima, which she undertook with heartfelt reverence. In her spare time in Portugal where she lived shortly after retirement, she led a group that often visited the elderly and sick, bringing comfort and companionship to those in need. Her love and devotion to her religion were evident in every aspect of her life. She was deeply devoted to following the teachings of Jesus Christ, and her actions reflected His teachings of love, compassion, and service to others. She is survived by her loving husband, Fernando, and loving children, Isabel Magalhaes and husband Tony, Manuel Cheria and wife Donna, Joseph Cheria and wife Pattie, Helen Johnson and husband Herb, and youngest son, John Cheria, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren all of whom were the light of her life. She is also survived by brothers Joseph Dias and wife Dina, brother Joao Dias and wife Maria, and sister Libracao Pinto and husband Joao David. She is predeceased by brother Antonio Dias (Maria Elena Dias) and sister Isabel Gomes (Manuel Gomes). Her absence leaves an irreplaceable void in our hearts, but her spirit will continue to guide us. Rest in peace, Mae. You were an angel on Earth, and now God has called you back to Heaven. Your love and legacy will live in our hearts forever.
