Obituary for Frances E. (Perla) DeSanctis
Frances Elvira DeSanctis, 97, of Chicopee, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was 1 of 10 children born to the late Ceaser and Mary Perla, and grew up in Springfield where she attended Classical High School and was a faithful communicant of Mt. Carmel Church. She then settled in Chicopee where she was a member of the Elks and Moose Club, as well as the Chicopee Lunch Bunch who met daily at McDonald’s for coffee and conversation. Fran worked for 23 years at Milton Bradley, from where she retired, and then spent her time helping to care for sick people. Throughout her life, she enjoyed crocheting, reading romance novels, baking her delicious Italian cookies, and especially spending time with her family. She was best known for her beautiful smile, outgoing personality, and fancy clothes; and will be sadly missed by all who knew her, for she was a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. Fran was a loving wife to her late 1st husband Salvatore Cardano, and her late 2nd husband Leo DeSanctis, with whom she loved to ballroom dance and show off their great moves; a devoted mother to Alex Cardano and wife Joanne, and Patti DeTomas and husband Frank Krzanik; an adoring grandmother to her 2 grandsons and their families, who were her greatest joy in life, grandson Mark Cardano and wife Cheryl and their beautiful children Ryan, Kristen, and Austin Cardano, and grandson David Runshaw and wife Michelle, and their beautiful daughters Samantha Runshaw, and Sara and Alyssa Gagne; a dear sister to Angelina Wilson, and the late Rose Costa, Jenny Stenta, Sarina Pessolla, Susie Sticco, and Carmino, Joseph, Thomas, and Angelo Perla. She also leaves numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by most of her close friends in an era gone by. Fran’s family also wishes to extend a special thank you to Baystate Hospice for their wonderful care; especially to her personal CNA Linda. Funeral services for Fran will be held on what would have been her 98th birthday, Thursday, March 29th in Ludlow Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:30am-12:15pm concluding with a funeral home chapel service at 12:30pm followed by burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fran’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (stjude.org) or the charity of one’s choice.
