Obituary for Francis J. Martel
Francis J. Martel, 71, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2023 with his loving family by his side. First and foremost, Fran was a faithful and loyal son of God who carried his faith in all that he did. He was a kind and loving husband, father, and big brother. Successful in his business life, he gave many years of dedication and hard work to Western Mass Electric Company, following in his uncle Lester's footsteps. He was thankful for his career and grateful for all that he was able to accomplish. He took nothing for granted, as he knew it was by the grace of God that he was given the opportunities that he had in life.
In his younger years, Fran obtained his Second Class Firemans License from Holyoke Community College, and Second Class Engineering License from Springfield Technical Community College before settling in at WMECO. He was kind and patient, and enjoyed helping his daughters with spelling, writing and math. Growing up he would also help his younger sisters with their schoolwork. He enjoyed working with his hands, always tinkering around the house, gardens and pool.
Fran was the beloved husband of Orranat “Nadia” Martel; a loving father to Elizabeth Grace Martel and Sarah Charity Martel; a dear brother to Pamela Murphy of Anaheim, CA; and also leaves many cousins, loving extended family members and dear friends. Fran was predeceased by two sisters, Phyllis Bacon of Chicopee and Patricia Landry of Holyoke. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 18th. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00am at Ludlow Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Correia officiating a service at 11:00am. Burial in Island Pond Cemetery will follow. Donations are requested in Fran’s memory to Mountain View Baptist Church, 310 Apremont Hwy, Holyoke, MA 01040.
Fran will forever be missed by his family as the void will be large without him. May perpetual light shine upon your soul Fran and may you rest in peace. God speed and please watch over those of us here who love you.
