Obituary for Francisco Amaral
Francisco Amaral of Ludlow better known as “Xico” passed away peacefully on Friday June 3, 2022. Born in Proenca-a-velha Portugal to the late Antonio and Maria (Leitao) Amaral, he lived there until the age of 19 with his parents and 4 younger siblings. Francisco took his role as the oldest of 5 very seriously. After walking his younger siblings to school, he would help his parents care for the animals and crops on their large ranch. He loved the village life and other villagers adored Francisco as he was always available to help when needed. In 1966 Francisco, along with his parents and siblings, made Ludlow their new home. He brought with him his hard work ethic and compassion for others. He was proudly Naturalized as an American Citizen in 1972, and enjoyed playing the harmonica, dancing and listening to his favorite musicians, Roberto Leal and Jorge Ferreira. Xico was often referred to as the “Mayor of East Street” as he frequently walked up and down East Street going in and out of restaurants to socialize. He was quite popular with the locals as he was always willing to help the merchants and their clients when needed. He took special pride in his dress attire. You would often spot him on East Street with his various outfits including The Cowboy, Mariachi Player, Airline Pilot, World War II Uniform, or just draped the national colors of his native Portugal or the Red, White and Blue of the USA. Family was most important to Xico and he leaves his loving siblings; his brother John Amaral and wife Linda, sisters Maria Fatima Amaral and Grace Matos and her husband Dominick D. Matos and sadly predeceased by his sister Ressurreicao Gomes and brother-in-law Arlindo Gomes; he also leaves his cherished Nephews and Nieces, Miguel Gomes and wife Ania, Dominick A. Matos and wife Melissa D’Amico, Anthony Amaral and wife Sarah Wilczynski, Jennifer Amaral and husband Anthony Stevens; great-nephews and nieces Maksym Gomes, Lucyna Gomes, Casey Gomes and Noemi Gomes. Funeral services for Francisco will be held on Wednesday June 8, 2022 from the Ludlow Funeral Home. Visitation is Wednesday morning from 9:00-10:30am with a Chapel Service at the funeral home beginning at 10:30am followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
