George R. Sicard, Sr, 77, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025 at Holyoke Soldiers Home. Born in Newport, VT, son of the late George E. and Erma (Rice) Sicard, he grew up in Bondsville graduating from Palmer High School and moved to Ludlow in 1971. George was a United States Navy Veteran proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War from 1964-1968. Upon his honorable discharge, he began his profession as a stationary engineer and was employed for most of his career at Westfield State College from where he retired. George was a member of the National Association of Power Engineers and his many passions included working in the yard and his gardens, bird watching, cooking, doing puzzles, and spending time with his family. George was the beloved husband of Harriet (Mantone) Sicard, who predeceased him in 2004; a devoted father to James Sicard and wife Heather, of Ludlow, and George Sicard, Jr. and wife Crystal, of TX; a loving grandfather to Derek, Amanda, Jessie, Courtney, Tyler, Gavin, Gareth, Cameron, and 6 great-grandchildren; a dear brother to Donna Verrier, Henry Sicard, and Joe Sicard; and also leaves many loving extended family members and dear friends. Visiting hours for George will be held on Wednesday, March 19th from 5:00-7:00pm at Ludlow Funeral Home. Funeral services are on Thursday, March 20th with visitation from 10:15-11:00am at the funeral home concluding with a chapel service at 11:00am followed by procession to Island Pond Cemetery for burial with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
