Obituary for Georgina (Lopes) Mateus
Georgina (Lopes) Mateus, 90, formerly of Lakeview Ave, passed away on June 1, 2009 in Westerly, R.I. Born in Bristol, R.I., daughter of the late Isidoro and Joaquina (deRozario) Lopes, she was raised in Sobral De Lagoa, Portugal and came to Ludlow in 1954 where she was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She worked for 30 years at the former William Carters in Springfield before her retirement. Georgina was the beloved wife of the late Emidio V. Mateus, who predeceased her in 2005; the loving mother of Elidio Mateus and wife Karen, of Ludlow, and Matilde Goncalves and husband Dennis, of Westerly; grandmother to Lauren Maheras and her husband Austin and Matthew Goncalves and his wife Meredith; great-grandmother to Grace and Sophia; and was predeceased by her brothers and sisters. Visiting hours are on Saturday, June 13, from 12-2pm at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Ludlow, with a memorial talk at 1pm.
