Obituary for Gilbert "Gil" Rosa
Gilbert “Gil” Rosa, 52, of Three Rivers, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, on March 5, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Portugal, Gil was the son of Sebastiao and Cecilia (Angelica) Rosa, whom he loved so much. He said he “would never forget his close friends Diogo and Fernanda Surreira for giving him a place to lay his head at a bad time in his life.” Also, to his friends, Tony Gonsalves, Ed Percell, Jack Butcher, and all others not mentioned; “thank you for all the help you gave to him.” Gil worked for Chicopee Undergarment and then for Smith and Wesson for 34 years, and it was told by many that he was the best set-up person, machine operator, and trouble shooter that there was; and he possessed the ability to fix anything. His friends and co-workers said that he made everything look so easy. He also designed stock for the stock dept., and gave his best at everything that he did. Gil himself said that he “was there to get the job done, not to make a project.” He also loved his small farm, gardening, fishing, flea marketing and collecting and selling antiques; but especially loved his 5 grandchildren and his cats; Destiny and Nemo. Gil leaves his beloved wife Diane (Jurkowski) Rosa, who will miss the flowers on the table when she came home and the roses on her car, but most of all she will “miss you until we meet again, My Love”. Gil was the loving father of Angela Rosa, of Chicopee, Stephanie (Rosa) DosReis and her husband Daniel, of Ludlow, Jay Wood and his wife Heather (Fickett), of Monson, and Christine (Wood) Bigelow her husband Richard, of Palmer; a cherished grandfather to Elijah, Karlie, Jake, Alyssa and Tyler and a dear brother to Rosadia, Emelia and her husband Americo, and Izelda and her husband Victor, all in Portugal. He also leaves countless other loving relatives and dear friends including his aunt Maria Domingos; cousin Ines Dumont and her husband Richard; and brother-in-law William Jurkowski and his wife Elisabeth. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Higby and the D’Amour Clinic, and Baystate Hospital & Hospice for all their care and compassion. Funeral services will be held on Monday morning at 8:45am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Main St. Three Rivers, followed by cremation. Visiting hours will be on Sunday evening from 4-7pm.
