Obituary for Gilberto Silva DeSousa
Gilberto Silva DeSousa, 65, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at home on October 4, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Monteiros, Portugal, son of the late José Anibal and Adelina (da Silva) de Sousa, he immigrated to Ludlow in 1977 where he was a faithful communicant of Our Lady Of Fatima Church and proud member of the Gremio Lusitano Club. Gilberto worked for 34 years at Palmer Paving and in his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, making wine, and watching European Soccer Games. Gilberto was the beloved husband of 39 years to Maria (Livracão) DeSousa; a loving father to Lisa Balboa and husband Michael, of Voorheesville, NY; a devoted VoVo to Gabriella and Alexandra Balboa; dear brother to João “John” Sousa and wife Maria Diolinda, Maria Lina Goncalves and husband José, Candida Gomes and husband Gualdino, all of Ludlow, Maria Albina Fontes and husband Domingos, of Wilbraham, Maria Aida Goncalves and husband José Joaquim, of Agawam, Antonio Silva Sousa, of Portugal, and Guilhermina Silva Sousa, of Portugal; several loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Gilberto’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Katz, nurses, and staff at D’Amour Center for Cancer Care and Baystate Hospice for all of their care and compassion. Visiting hours for Gilberto will be held on Tuesday October 8th from 4:00-7:00pm in Ludlow Funeral Home. Funeral services are on Wednesday, October 9th at 9:00am from the funeral home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Donations may be made in Gilberto’s memory to D’Amour Center 3350 Main St, Springfield, Ma. 01107.
