Obituary for Guy J. Stanley
Guy J. Stanley, 90, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2008.  Born in Steuben, Maine, son of the late John and Bernice Stanley, he was a 1936 graduate of Steuben High School and spent 1 year in the Civilian Conservation Corps, in Maine.  Guy was a United States Air Force Veteran serving his country honorably during WWII and earned the Good Conduct and American Defense Service Metals, and the European African Theater Campaign Ribbon.    He came to Springfield in 1937 where he was a former communicant of Indian Orchard Congregational Church.  In 1951, he earned a Batchelor of Science Degree from AIC and worked for 5 years at the Springfield Armory and 5 years at Monsanto.  Guy then worked as a metallurgical engineer for over 27 years at American Bosch and was a member of its 25 Year Club, Management Club and Athletic Association, before retiring in 1983.  He was also a member of the American Chemical Society and American Society for Metals.  An avid golfer, Guy was a 30 year member of the Ludlow Country Club and had accomplished a hole in one at the Feeding Hills Country Club.  He was also an avid bowler, winning many bowling tournaments, and was a devoted Red Sox fan.  Guy was the beloved husband of Audrey J. (Hatcher) Stanley; a loving step-father to Walter Craven and his wife Cheryl and William Craven, all of Ludlow, and the late John W. Craven; a cherished grandfather to Stephanie, Destin, Rayanna and Dillan Craven; a dear brother to Frank Stanley and his wife Marcella, of Springfield, and Madeline Sawyer, of Milbridge, ME; and also leaves his loving nieces and nephews; and many more dear family members and friends.  Guy’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Ludlow Health Dept. Town Nurses for all of their care and support over the years.  It was Guy’s wishes that there be no calling hours and all funeral services be held privately by the family with final interment in Springfield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Guy’s memory to Ludlow Boys and Girls Club, Claudia Way, Ludlow, Ma. 01056 or Veterans Memorial Fund c/o Board of Selectmen 488 Chapin St. Ludlow, Ma. 01056.
