Obituary for Hans Joachim Weit
Hans Joachim Weit, 61, of Holiday Fl., and formerly of Easthampton, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009 in Tarpons Springs Fl. Born in Holzminden, Germany to the late Karl and Gerta (Hoezel) Weit, Hans immigrated to the United States in 1957. He was a graduate of Northampton High School and of Springfield Technical Community College in 1975 as a respiratory therapist. He was locally employed as a registered respiratory therapist at Holyoke Hospital, Baystate Medical Center where he was the Neonatal Intensive Care Respiratory Therapy Coordinator, and UMASS Medical Center. He moved to Florida in 2004 and was a respiratory therapy supervisor at the University Community Hospital in Tampa. His passion was working in the Neonatal Intensive Care unit taking care of God's tiniest creations. Hans was an avid bicyclist, often biking to raise money for various charities. He loved the beach, skiing, music, playing his guitar, dancing and making people laugh. He especially loved nature and being outside for any reason.He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Judy (Barker) Weit, a daughter Heather Touchette (Weit) and her husband Matthew, as well as his grandson, Cameron, all of Indian Orchard. He was predeceased by his oldest daughter Heidi J. Weit in 1993. Hans also leaves a brother Harry Weit, a sister-in-law, Linda Weit ,and a niece Nicole Weit,all of Easthampton,  his step children Brian Vermouth of Utah, Alison Vermouth of Ware, Ma. and his step grandchildren Connor, Aiden, Arwen, and Kenedie Rae.Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 11 AM at the Ludlow Funeral Home, with visitation hours Wednesday evening from 6-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hans' memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 220 North Main St. #104, Natick Ma. 01760.
