Helen B. (Barszcz) Waz, 96, lifelong resident of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at home on April 3, 2024 with her daughter Barbara and caretaker Sarah by her side. She was born in Ludlow to Joseph and Anna (Dusza) Barszcz and was the youngest, and last surviving sister of 13 siblings. In 1945, she graduated from Ludlow High School and worked for many years at the Wall Street Journal from where she retired. Helen was an active and devoted communicant of Christ the King Church where she was a member of its St. Anne and Rosary Sodalities. In her free time, she enjoyed taking trips to the casino with her husband Ted, especially to Atlantic City, as well as playing the lottery and scratch tickets. Helen also had a love for Polish music, Cheerios, and especially cats. She adored Barbara’s cat Myrna who passed away in 2022 at the age of 11 and always said Myrna was the most beautiful cat she’s ever seen with her big deep dark green eyes. She will be missed by Zoey the Tuxedo cat who kept her occupied with her antics for the last year and a half that she resided with Barbara. Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband Theodore J. Waz in 2012. Helen leaves her daughter Barbara J. Silva, of Ludlow, grandson Robert T. Silva, and grandson Joseph S. Silva, his wife Ashley, and their daughter Violet, whom Helen adored; She also leaves her daughter Cynthia Mackay, of CT, her neighbor and dear friend Tina Wright, and many loving extended family members. . At Helen’s request, all funeral services were held privately by her family and anyone wishing to make a donation in Helen’s memory, can do so to Christ the King Church for Parish use only.
