Obituary for Helena Roriz Gois
Helena (Maria Helena Roriz de Sousa) Gois, 90, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at home on April 7, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Soutelo, Portugal, she was the beloved daughter of Jose de Sousa and Helena Roriz. Helena was an elementary school teacher and while teaching in a small school in the village of Soutelo, she met her future husband of 58 years Antonio Gois. Upon marriage, Antonio and Helena moved to Angola where they were blessed with 2 sons. In 1975, the family moved to Brazil awaiting their visa to immigrate to the United States. In 1977, the visa was granted and they came to New Jersey before eventually settling in Ludlow in 1979. Helena was a devoted communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and together with her husband, they founded the Chicopee Portuguese School. Helena leaves her beloved sons Paul Gois and wife Pamela, of Westfield, and Ivon Gois and wife Nicole, of Falmouth; 4 loving grandchildren Analisha Michanczyk, and Quill, Ryan, and Austin Gois; 3 cherished great-grandchildren Devin and Alivia Michanczyk and Jace Kaleta, and also leaves her siblings Conceicao Dalmeida, Joaquim Sousa, Antonio Sousa, Pilar Sousa, and Olivia Braga; as well as many loving extended family members and dear friends here and in Portugal. Funeral services for Helena will be held on Saturday, April 12th. Visitation is from 9:00-10:15am at Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Parish followed by interment at Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum at Gate of Heaven Cemetery In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helena’s memory to St Jude Children's Hospital.
