Obituary for Henry M. Dobek Jr.
Henry Matthew Dobek Jr., 76, of Ludlow passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday June 7, 2016. Born in Springfield to the late Henry and Julia (Paluch) Dobek he was a graduate of Trade High School and he worked for 35 years at Hallmark Greeting Cards. Henry served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a former member of the Polish Americans Veterans Club. He was a proud member of both the Polish Americans Citizens Club, where he was an active volunteer on Bingo nights and the Portuguese American Citizens Club. He was a faithful communicant of Immaculate Conception Church and often volunteered making Pierogies at both Immaculate Conception and Christ the King Parishes. Henry enjoyed golf with his Thursday morning golf buddies, his casino trips and a cold beer on the deck in Maine, he was an avid fan of the Bruins, Red Sox and Patriots but more importantly to the teams that his grandchildren played for. Henry leaves his beloved wife of 53 years Judith (Lima) Dobek of Ludlow; loving sons Brian Dobek and wife Anna of Ludlow and Paul Dobek and wife Mary of Palmer; adored grandchildren Nick, Jessica and Sophia; caring brothers-in-law Christopher Lima and Bob Hamelin as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Sadly Henry was predeceased by his 3 sisters Ester Hamelin, Irene Monette and Dorothy Ingram. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors and nurses of the Baystate Damour Cancer Center, specifically the nurses of the Oncology floor and the Daly building. A special thank you to Doctor Jacqueline Garcia of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute for her compassion, care and dedication to finding a cure for Leukemia. Funeral services will be held on Monday June 13, 2016 at 10:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00am in Immaculate Conception Church followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are Sunday afternoon from 3:00-7:00pm and in lieu of flowers it was Henry’s wish that donations be made in his memory to: Dana Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Henry Dobek to support Leukemia Research @ Dana Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA. 02284 or via www.dana-farber.org/gift.
