Ingrid Elli (Lange) Vermette, born May 18, 1940, in Hofgeismar, Germany, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, after a long and courageous journey with Alzheimer’s disease, comforted by hospice care in her final days.
Ingrid was the beloved daughter of Fritz Lange and Agnes (Ebrecht) Lange of Germany, and was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Gisela (Lange) Bannenberg (2021).
A devoted mother and grandmother (Omi), Ingrid is survived by her sons, Peter Hirdes of Germany and David Vermette and his wife Jacqueline of Ludlow, Massachusetts; her cherished grandchildren, Braeden Vermette and Avery Vermette of Ludlow, Massachusetts; and her sisters, Lieselotte (Lange) Sallach and Antonia (Lange) Batz of Germany. She is also lovingly
remembered by several nieces and nephews.
Ingrid spent many years working at BJ’s Wholesale Club in Chicopee, Massachusetts, where she was known for her warmth, kindness, and hospitality. Those who knew her best will remember her deep love for family and the enduring pride she had for her German heritage that she carried throughout her life.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Stephen J. Bonasera and the memory care team at Baystate Hospital, as well as the entire staff of Vantage Health & Rehab of Hampden, for their compassionate care and support over the past several years.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation will take place. In the coming days, a small Protestant service will be held privately with immediate family members. At a later date, Ingrid’s remains will be returned to Germany to be laid to rest near her family.
