Obituary for Irene (Cabeleira) Rua
Irene (Cabeleira) Rua, 93, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, April 13, 2026. Born in Castinheira, Portugal, she immigrated to the United States in 1966 and has lived in Ludlow for the past 60 years. Irene was a seamstress by trade, and was also known for crocheting beautiful gifts that are now cherished by many. A faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Irene was a woman of strong faith and devotion. Predeceased by her beloved husband Antonio, in 2014, she leaves her loving sons Jose Luis Rua (Helena), Jose Antonio Rua, and Mario Rua (Wendy); adored grandchildren, Amanda (Jared), Jonathan, Emily, Allison, Christian, Gabriel and Timothy; cherished great- grandchildren Lorenzo and Marcello; and extended family. Funeral services for Irene will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at Ludlow Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 9:00-10:15am. Liturgy of Christian Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
