Obituary for Irene (Palatino) Saloio
Irene (Palatino) Saloio, 86, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Ludlow, MA, she was a lifelong resident and the daughter of the late Joaquim and Grace Palatino. Irene was a graduate of Ludlow High School and a faithful and active communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Prior to marrying she worked in the office of her father’s business, Daylight Dairy and worked at the Double D where she often served her future husband. She was the beloved wife of 45 years to James Saloio Sr, who sadly predeceased her in 2007. A loving mother to James Jr. and wife Lucy, Ronald and wife Lisa, and Kenneth and wife Sherry, all of Ludlow; a cherished grandmother to Alicia (Saloio) Valadares and her husband Raymond, Jack, Brian, Jennifer, Timothy, Joshua, Breanna, Lauren, Michael, Matthew and Anthony. After taking time to raise her family, Irene worked for many years at Mass Mutual Insurance Company. Irene never missed an opportunity to instill her faith in those she loved. She will be remembered for her kind and gentle soul, dedication to family, willingness to listen, and her always comforting words. Irene is predeceased by her sisters Mary (Palatino) Saloio and Alice (Palatino) Lavoie, and brothers Americo (Mike) Palatino, Joaquim Jr (Jackie), and John Palatino. She leaves her siblings Rosemarie (Palatino) Pillsbury and A. Richard Palatino; and also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at Encompass Health of Ludlow and Life Care Center of Wilbraham for their kindness and care. Funeral services for Irene will be held on Thursday August 25, at 9:00am at the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Mass celebrated at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery, visitation is Wednesday evening at the Funeral Home from 4:00-6:00pm and Memorial donations may be made in Irene’s memory to Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 438 Winsor St. Ludlow, or St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 181 Hubbard St. Ludlow.
