Obituary for Irene (Sousa) Goncalves
Irene Sousa Goncalves, 92, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2022, in Newport, TN. Born in Ludlow, Irene was a lifelong resident where she was faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, and member of the Gremio Lusitano Club and Portuguese American Citizens Club. She worked for many years at the Ludlow Mills before retiring. Irene was the beloved wife of the late Abilio “Billy” Goncalves who predeceased her in 2018, and a loving mother to Americo Goncalves. Predeceased by her parents Raul and Maria (Concaico) Sousa, and dear sister of the late Americo J. Sousa. Irene also leaves several loving nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends. Visiting hours for Irene will be held on Thursday, March 10th from 9:15 -10:15am at the Ludlow Funeral Home. Funeral services to immediately follow from the funeral home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
