Obituary for J. Bernard Syriac
J. Bernard Syriac, 92, of Eden St. was called to Heaven on Wednesday, October 25, 2006. Born in Ludlow, the son of the late Louis and Genevieve (LaRoche) Syriac, he spent his youth in Springfield and graduated from Springfield Trade School before returning to Ludlow in 1953. Bernard was employed for over 40 years at the former Chapman Valve before retiring in 1979 and was a H.A.M radio operator with the call name K1EAX. He was also a faithful communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and a member and past president of its League of the Sacred Heart Society as well as a member of the Ludlow Golden Agers and Senior Center of which he was a past officer. Bernard was the beloved husband of 68 years to Irene E. (Bachand) Syriac; a loving father to Bernice Lambert of Melbourne Beach, FL, Raymond Syriac of Wilbraham, Lawrence Syriac of Springfield and Dennis Syriac of Chicopee and; a dear brother to Edmond Syriac of Texas, Fabiola Bourcier and Theresa Ouellette, both of Ludlow, and the late Leonard, Clarence and Oswald Syriac; and a cherished grandfather of 6 and great-grandfather of 9. Funeral services will be on Saturday morning at 9am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am in St. John the Baptist with interment in Island Pond Cemetery on Tuesday, Oct. 31st at 11am. Visitation is on Friday evening from 6-9pm and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bernard’s memory to St. John the Baptist Pastoral Center Building Fund 217 Hubbard St. Ludlow, Ma. 01056.
