Obituary for Jacinta "Jessie" (Santos) Oliveira
Jacinta “Jessie” (Santos) Oliveira entered into eternal rest surrounded by her loving family at Wingate Nursing Home in Wilbraham on October 6, 2010. She was 100 years old. She was born in Laurinha, Portugal on August 11, 1910, the beloved daughter of the late Levy “Louis”and Florinda Santos. She leaves her son-in-law Edwin”Soupy” Tulik, her grandsons John Tulik and his wife Kelly McCarthy, Louis Tulik and his wife Natalina. She also leaves her great grandchildren, Joana and Sofia Tulik. She is survived by her sisters Irene Cellillie, Eva Dias, and Lois Morais. Jessie was predeceased by her husband, Luis Oliveira in 1997 and her daughter, Joan Tulik in 1984. She was also predeceased by her four brothers, Louis, Americo “Bobby”, John P., Frank Santos and her sister, Martha Duda. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Jessie owned and operated the Corner Lunch on East St. during WWII. In 1942, she opened Jessie’s Specialty Shop, which ran for 42 years. She was a founding member and faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church and in 1953, she donated the shrine of the Virgin Mary and the three children on the grounds of the church. Along with her sisters and dear friends, she worked to maintain the shrine for 43 years. She was a member of the Ludlow Hospital Auxillary and served on the hospital's Board of Trustees since 1958, also starting its booster club and gift shop. She was also a founding and longtime member the Gremio Lusitano Club Womans Auxillary, the Portuguese American Citizens Club, and Portuguese Continental Union. Funeral services for Jessie will be on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010 at 9am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am in Our Lady of Fatima Church. The family will hold a private burial. Visiting Hours are on Monday evening from 4-7pm.
