Obituary for James Anthony Bernardo Sr.
James A. Bernardo Sr., 52, of Ludlow passed away unexpectedly on December 18, 2017. Born in Springfield to Antonio and Nascimenta Bernardo, he was a lifelong Ludlow resident and a graduate of Ludlow High School and Boston University. Jim owned and operated Leitao Insurance Agency and was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, a proud member of the Unity Athletic Club, Gremio Lusitano Club, and was an avid sports fan including the Bruins, Red Sox, and Patriots; but most importantly he was an amazing, dedicated, and loving husband and father. He leaves his beloved wife of 27 years Kathleen (Leitao) Bernardo, of Ludlow, and his adored children James Jr, Veronica and Victoria, all of Ludlow, who will miss him dearly. He also leaves his dear parents Antonio and Nascimenta Bernardo of Ludlow; his loving sister Lisa Teixeira her husband Alan of Ludlow; caring in-laws Francisco Leitao and his wife Maria, nieces, nephews, and godchildren. Sadly, Jim was predeceased by his brother-in-law Manny Leitao. Funeral services for Jim will be held on Friday December 22nd, 2017 from the Ludlow Funeral Home. Family and friends are asked to gather directly at Our Lady of Fatima Church for a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are Thursday evening from 3:00-7:00pm. It is strongly suggested by Jim's family that in lieu of flowers please donations in his name to: American Diabetes Association @ diabetes.org.
