Obituary for James H. "Jim" Bernard
James H. "Jim" Bernard, 73, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2021. Son of the late David Bernard, Sr. and Phyllis Bernard, Jim was raised in Ludlow and graduated from Ludlow High School in 1966.
A former industrial arts teacher at LHS, Jim had a love for woodworking and anything else that could be built or taken apart. Over his life he created many pieces of fine furniture, built countless kitchens and bathrooms, and even constructed entire homes in Ludlow. While working from home, he always made time for his sons' youth sports and extracurricular activities. Through to the end, Jim was always there to help family and friends with any projects they had.
In his spare time, Jim was a firearms aficionado, avid reader of the classics, and always kept an active interest in the wider world, instilling in his sons and grandchildren a love for current events, science, and arts.
Jim was the beloved husband of 47 years to Margaret "Peggy" Bernard; a loving father to Michael Bernard and wife Emily, Brian Bernard and wife Christina, and Jeffrey Bernard and wife Christine; a devoted grandfather to Daniel, Sean, Katie, Mackenzie, Maria, and Alexandra; a dear brother to David (Pat), Betty Ann Loud (late Charlie) and BJ Ferrero (Teddy Miller), all of Ludlow, and the late Richard “Berns” Bernard; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Funeral services for Jim will be held on Saturday, October 16th. Family and friends may gather directly at St. Elizabeth Parish for a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. The family will receive guests at the church beginning at 10:15am and has requested that anyone in attendance to please wear a mask.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory St. Jude's Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org) or Boys Town (boystown.org)
