It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jeannette Gomes, a dedicated healthcare professional and beloved member of the Springfield community. Jeannette quietly passed away on November 1, 2024, at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family.
Jeannette devoted over 40 years of her life to the healthcare field, primarily serving at the Springfield Municipal Hospital. Her career was marked by an unwavering commitment to caring for others, where she touched countless lives with her compassion and dedication. Known for her gentle spirit and warm smile, Jeannette was not just a colleague but a friend to many. She believed in the power of kindness and made it her mission to ensure that every patient felt valued and cared for during their time in the hospital.
Jeannette is survived by one brother, Ernest Sarrasin of Northborough, MA; sisters Dorothy Mineau of Ware, MA; and Lucille Congdon of Chicopee, MA. She was predeceased by her husband Orlando Gomes as well as her sister Betty Janik of Michigan and brother Patrick Sarrasin of Florida. Although she did not have children of her own, she cherished her many Godchildren, nieces and nephews who were an important part of her life.
Outside of her professional life, Jeannette was a cherished member of her family and community. She enjoyed spending time with loved ones, sharing stories, and creating memories that will be treasured forever. Her passion for helping others extended beyond her job; she was actively involved in local charities and volunteer organizations that focused on health education and support for those in need.
A brief memorial service will be held at Island Pond Cemetery on November 16, 2024, at 10 AM. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Jeannette’s remarkable life and share their memories of this extraordinary woman who gave so much to others. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jeannette’s name to ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
