Obituary for Joao "John" Maravilha
Joao "John" Maravilha, 80, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of November 8th at Mercy Medical Center. He was born in Lamego, Portugal on August 21, 1931. He met his beloved wife Aida (DaGraca) while working in Lisbon, and in 1979, John moved them to Ludlow, Ma. in pursuit of the American dream where they raised their 3 sons. He worked for many years at Hasbro before retiring and was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church and a proud member of the Gremio Lusitano Club. He also enjoyed making wine and spending time with his grandchildren; especially taking his grandson Michael to the bakery. John was the beloved husband of the late Aida Maravilha, who predeceased him in August 2004; a loving father and cherished Vovo to Victor Maravilha and his wife Isabel, of Belchertown, Alfredo Maravilha, wife Linda, and their son Michael, of Ludlow, Luis Maravilha, wife June, and their children Nickalas, Branden, Alycia, Cameran, Luis Jr., and Annastacia; and also leaves a great-grandson Drake; and 3 siblings in Portugal, Rogerio, Alcino, and Aida Maravilha. He was predeceased by his brother Abel. Funeral services are on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 10:30am at Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Sunday evening from 5-8pm.
