Obituary for Joaquim Sr. Carvalho
Joaquim Carvalho Sr., 89, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Saturday March 16, 2013, with his loving family by his side. Born in Portugal to the late Teotonio and Josefa (Goncalves) Carvalho, he immigrated to the United States and has lived in Ludlow since 1964 where he was a faithful communicant of our Lady of Fatima Church and a proud member of the Gremio Lusitano Club. Joaquim worked for many years at the former Jahn Foundry in Springfield before his retirement and especially enjoyed spending time working in his garden. He leaves his beloved wife of 49 years Maria (Moura) Carvalho of Ludlow; loving son Joaquim Carvalho Jr. and his wife Charlotte of Springfield; cherished grandchildren Robert Carvalho, Americo Carvalho and Julianna Carvalho, all of Springfield ; his dear sister Aida Carvalho of Portugal, his brother Antonio Carvalho in Portugal and several nieces, nephews, family and friends throughout the community. Sadly he was predeceased by his 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Funeral services for Joaquim will be held on Wednesday March 20th, 2013 at 9:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery.
