Obituary for Joaquim A. “Jack” Carneiro
Joaquim A. (Jack) Carneiro, 94, of Ludlow, passed away on March 8, 2020. Born in Milford, MA, son of the late Manuel and Jesuina Carneiro, he spent most of his childhood in Portugal before returning to the U.S. with his family and settling in Ludlow in 1941. He served with honor in the U.S. Army during World War II, returning to Ludlow after the war. In 1952 he married the love of his life, Lucille Santos, to whom he was married for 67 years until her death in 2019.
Jack retired after 30 years at Easco Hand Tools, and the couple enjoyed traveling around the country and socializing with close family and friends. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, and a member of the Gremio Lusitano Club, the Lusitano Alumni and Fans Club, and The Elks.
Jack was predeceased by his brothers Antonio and Americo Carneiro. He is survived by his daughter Andrea Carneiro and her partner Renee Sevigny; his sister Hilda Dias; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours for Jack are on Friday, March 13th from 4:00-6:00pm in Ludlow Funeral Home. Funeral services are on Saturday, March 14th. Visitation will begin at 10:15am concluding with a funeral service at 11:00am in the funeral home followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Jack and Lucille’s memory to the Friends of the Ludlow Senior Center Building Fund, 37 Chestnut Street, Ludlow, Ma. 01056.
