Obituary for Joaquim "Jack" F. Cerca
Joaquim F. “Jack” Cerca, 62, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with illness, on his 62nd birthday, October 27, 2007, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sao Jorge, Portugal, he was a member of the Portuguese Military serving in the war in Mozambique. Joaquim came to Indian Orchard in 1970 where he lived for a short time before moving to Ludlow in 1981. He worked for many years at Moore Drop Forge and then as a Mason for A. Pereira Construction before his retirement. Jack enjoyed working in his garden, tending to his many animals, reading the newspaper and telling jokes, but most of all loved spending time with his family and friends. He was also a proud volunteer for 20 years at the Our Lady of Fatima Festa. He was the beloved husband of 37 years to Conceicao Cerca; a loving father to Marianne Bernardes and her husband Tony, of Ludlow; a cherished son to Francisca (De Piedade) Cerca, of Portugal and the late Joao Cerca; and a dear brother to Piedade, Cecilia, Julia, Leonor and Jesufina, all in Portugal. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 9am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am in our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Tuesday evening from 6-8pm and memorial donations may be made in Joaquim’s memory to The American Cancer Society 30 Speen Street, Framingham, Ma. 01701.
