Joaquim Pereira, 101, of Indian Orchard, passed away peacefully at home on November,4, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Valdanta, Portugal, he immigrated to the United States in 1966 settling in Ludlow. Joaquim was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, a proud member of the Gremio Lusitano Club, an avid gardener and tender of his fruit trees to the end. One of his most memorable moments, was receiving the Purple Cane Award honoring the “Oldest Citizen” of Indian Orchard. Joaquim, was predeceased in 2019, by his loving wife of 69 yrs., Rosalina. He leaves to cherish his memory; Arminda Esteves and husband Antonio, Mario Pereira and wife Maria “Milu”, and Fernando “Fred” Pereira and wife Irene; a devoted grandfather to Antonio Esteves (Amanda) and Stephanie Nistico (Lou); Brian (Colleen) and Mathew (Melissa) Pereira; Alissa, Lauren Alves (Jonathan) and Christopher Pereira; and proud great-grandfather to Lena and Mari Esteves; Camila and Jonas Pereira; Noah, Lana and Hanna Pereira. Joaquim is survived by his sister, Ester, in Portugal and predeceased by brothers Joao, Luis and Jose. Visiting hours for Joaquim will be held on Tuesday November 8th from 5:00-7:00 pm from the Ludlow Funeral Home. His funeral will be Wednesday morning with family and friends gathering at the funeral home at 9:00am with a Liturgy of Christian Mass celebrated at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church, followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joaquim’s name to Our Lady of Fatima Parish.
