Obituary for Joel M. Schnur
Joel M. Schnur died peacefully on September 12, 2012 at the age of 72. Born in Brooklyn, New York on September 6, 1940, he was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute receiving his Bachelor of Science degree. He leaves his wife of 49 years, Charlotte, son, Michael, daughter-in-law Audrey, and grandson Nick of Lafayette Hills, PA., son, Steven, daughter-in-law, Bette, and granddaughter, Sabrina of Henderson, Nevada.
Joe was employed as a research chemist with Monsanto/Solutia for 38 years in both Phenolic resins, and Saflex. The products he developed were manufactured in Belgium and Japan as well as in the United States. He was best known in the Springfield area for his involvement in Community theater productions both on stage, and behind the scenes in set construction, lighting design and sound. He was president of Encore players for five years, and he appeared in Social Security, Beau Geste, Equis, Fools, and many other productions.
Calling hours are Saturday from 2 until 5 o’clock at the Ludlow Funeral Home, East Street, Ludlow. The funeral will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joel’s name to the Germantown Academy science department, GA Office of Institutional Advancement , P.O. Box 287, Fort Washington, Pa. 19034-0287.
