Obituary for John F. Chaves
John F. Chaves, 81, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Chaves Portugal, son of the late Manuel and Barbara Chaves, he immigrated to the United States settling in Ludlow, and in his youth, he served as an altar server for the Catholic church. He was partners with his son John for over 30 years with Chaves Enterprises. He enjoyed running heavy equipment and was a member of Local 98 Operating Engineers, and enjoyed taking his daughter for rides on the equipment, trucks, and fishing. He also enjoyed working at the garage in Ludlow with the 2 Daves, as well as working on the farm in South Carolina with family. Most recently, he was working on projects in NC and SC. John was an avid motocross enthusiast and was a member of NESC (#711 & #545) where he raced for a number of years. He also enjoyed car racing and events at Riverside where he had previously raced and more recently raced in the streets of Cancun, Mexico and the Cayman Islands where he frequently traveled. He will also be affectionately remembered for saying " Heading West as they say". John was the beloved husband of 58 years to Carol (Dargis) Chaves; a loving father to John F. Chaves, Jr. and wife Doreen, David Chaves, and April Chaves; a devoted grandfather to Jonathan and wife Kristine, Benjamin, Hilarie and husband Donovan, Abigail, David, Daniel, and Landon; a dear brother Dulce Nowak, Laurinda Dakers, Manuel Chaves Jr., and the late Americo “Max” Chaves; and also leaves many loving extended family members and dear friends. Funeral services for John were held privately by his family and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The MG Foundation of America (myasthenia.org)
