Obituary for John Goncalves
John Goncalves, 84, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 11, 2009. Born in Ludlow to the late Manuel and Maria (Dias) Goncalves, he was a lifelong resident, a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and a founding member of the Gremio Lusitano Club. John worked for many years at the former Chapman Valve and Jahn Foundry before his retirement in 1980. He leaves his beloved wife of 61 years Rosa (Dias) Goncalves of Ludlow; loving sons Manuel Goncalves and his wife Kathleen of Westport, MA. and Jorge Goncalves and his wife Valerie of Ludlow; cherished grandchildren Gina (Goncalves) Brennan, Christopher Goncalves and Ashlee (Goncalves) Korny; his caring great-grandchildren Aiden, Lilee, John (Jack) and Abigayle; his caring sisters Ilda Goncalves and her husband Lavalier and Arminda Dias and her late husband Manuel Dias all of Ludlow as well as many caring nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his sister Idalina Goncalves and her husband Antonio Goncalves. Funeral services will be held Monday November 16th, 2009 at 9:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Assumption Church followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours for family and friends will be Sunday afternoon from 3:00-6:00pm and in lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made in John’s memory to: Wilson’s Disease Association International, 1802 Brookside Drive, Wooster, OH. 44691.
