Obituary for John R. Costa Sr.
John Costa Sr., 80, of Ludlow was called safely home on Friday, January 30th, 2009. Born in Ludlow to the late Dominic and Anna (Fernandes) Costa he was a long time Ludlow resident and 1946 graduate of Trade High School in Springfield. John was a 35 year employee at the former Standard Electric Time Company in Springfield, where he was the Business Rep for the local IBEW 1040, he also worked at Con-Air Martin Industries in Agawam. An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed fishing and hunting, he served his country honorably during WWII as a soldier in the United States Army during the occupation of Japan, receiving the WWII Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal. John was predeceased by his beloved wife Elsbeth “Elsie” Costa in February of 2006. He leaves his loving children; John “Jay” Costa Jr. and his wife Michelle of Ludlow and Deborah Miele and her husband Antonio of Ludlow; cherished grandchildren Jeremy Costa, Shawn Costa, Kristine Miele, Karen Miele and the late Kevin John Costa, who passed away in 1991; great -granddaughters Izabella Costa and Maya Costa; caring bother Anthony Costa and sisters, Amelia Rodrigues and Mary Maratea all of Ludlow; his special friend Flora Zimmer of Ludlow as well as several loving nieces and nephews throughout the community. John was also predeceased by siblings, Benta De Costa, Anna Costa, Joaquina Costa and Antonio Costa. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 at 9:15am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with Chapel Services beginning at 10:00am, Reverend Frank Groggett officiating, burial with Military Honors will follow in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are Tuesday evening from 4-7pm and donations may be made in John’s memory to the charity of ones choice.
