Obituary for John W. McCarthy
John W. McCarthy, 83, of Wilbraham, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 25, 2013 in the care and comfort of his home and surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Ludlow to the late John McCarthy and Yvette (Brunelle) and her husband Paul, he has lived in Wilbraham since 1986, where he was a faithful communicant of St. Cecilia’s Parish. John was currently the service manager at Central Chevrolet in West Springfield just completing his 35th year. He was the owner of the former D&S Service Station on Cottage Street in Springfield for over 25 years and also owned, along with his wife, Veronica’s Restaurant in Brimfield. John served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and belonged to the Korean War Veterans Association. He was a retired Sergeant of the Ludlow Special Police, serving the town for over 30 years. He leaves his beloved wife of 55 years Veronica (Boyer) McCarthy of Wilbraham; loving children Celeste LePage and husband Gary of Ludlow, John McCarthy Jr. and his Fiancé Amy Bilodeau of West Springfield, Kevin McCarthy and wife Linda of Ludlow, Joy Dias and husband Sergio of Ludlow, and Jillmarie DeCarolis and her husband Steven of Wilbraham; his 15 adored grandchildren Leo McCollum and wife Megan, Faith Menard and husband Dave, John, CPL Elizabeth McCollum of the USMC, Sarah, Michael, Alyssa, Meghan, Brian, Sean, Ryan, Justin, Tyler, Joshua and Sage; his 4 great-grandsons and 2 great-granddaughters; a caring brother Robert McCarthy and his wife Michelle of West Springfield and his beloved Uncle Ernie Brunelle of Ludlow. Funeral services for John will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 9:00am from Ludlow Funeral Home, 432 East Street Ludlow, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Cecilia’s Church at 10:00am followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday evening from 4:00-7:00pm and it was the wish of John’s family, that in lieu of flowers please make donations to: Baystate VNA and Hospice 50 Maple Street, Springfield, MA.
