Obituary for Jose Afonso
Jose Joaquin Afonso, age 90, of Ludlow Mass, a friend and mentor to many went to be with the Lord on September 10, 2021 while surrounded by his family. Jose was born in Montalegre, Portugal. In 1958 he married Maria Alves and moved to Argentina where he started his family and was a proud owner of a successful Quinta. In 1971 he moved to America and started a new life in Ludlow Massachusetts. While here, he became a prominent member of the Gremio Lusitano Club, a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church and a dedicated employee of Storms Forge for over 25 years. He enjoyed many hobbies, including making wine, gardening, carpentry and spending time with his friends and family. Jose was the faithful husband to Maria (Alves) Afonso for over 62 years. He leaves behind his 3 daughters Maria Kroll, Stella Faria and her husband Carlos, Laura Bass and her husband Devin; his 7 grandchildren Nancy Coelho and her husband Danny, Krystal Kroll, Emily Rosario and her husband Enrique, Amanda and Morgan Faria, Tyler and Erik Bass; his 3 great grandchildren Alex and Mason Coelho and Gianna Faria; and also leaves many loving family members and dear friends both in the United States and Portugal. Funeral services for Jose will be held on Wednesday September 15, 2021 from the Ludlow Funeral Home. Visitation is Wednesday morning from 8:45-10:15am with a Liturgy of Christian Mass celebrated at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
