Obituary for Jose Alberto
Jose Marques Alberto, 81, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully in the wonderful care of personnel at Life Care Center of Wilbraham on November 10th, 2021. Born in Sobral da Lagoa, Portugal in 1940, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1966. A veteran of the Angolan War, he settled in Ludlow, MA where his parents, Jose Alberto and Maria Jacinta (both predeceased), had previously immigrated. A talented soccer player, he played for the Gremio Lusitanos and was a fixture of the Portuguese Club for over 50 years. An equally talented welder, his decorative iron work can still be seen around the region. Married to Dora Alegria in Samora Correia, Portugal in 1966, Jose leaves a legacy of hard work, loyalty and respect as virtues he instilled in his three sons. He will be missed by his sons and their spouses, Frank & Ana Alberto, Eddy Alberto & Judi O’Brien, and Joseph “Junior Marques” Alberto & Mia Alves. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren Nicholas Alberto & wife Kay, Andrew Alberto, Marisa Alberto, Emma Alberto and step grandchildren Susan & Anthony Afonso. He also leaves his great grandchildren Aubree, Brady and new arrival Chloe Alberto. Jose also leaves behind his beloved niece and nephews David Pederneira, Ana (Pederneira) Ferris & Daniel Pederneira, as well as his brother-in-law, Jose Pederneira. Among those who will cherish his memory are additional family in the United States and Portugal. He will be missed by countless friends who will certainly each have some colorful story to share. As he would have wished, donations in his honor can be mailed to the Gremio Lusitano Portuguese Club, 385 Winsor Street, Ludlow, MA 01056. Last respects can be made at Ludlow Funeral Home on Thursday, November 18th, 2021 from 9am to 11am, followed by a Chapel Service beginning at 11:00 at the Funeral Home. Jose’s burial will be held privately by his family. Viva, Portugal! Viva, Os Belenenses! We will miss you, Pai!
