Jose Fernandes Dias, 87, formerly of Ludlow, MA, passed away peacefully at his home in New Port Richey, FL, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Lisbon, Portugal, to Antonio and Laura (Fernandes) Dias, Jose worked for many years as a talented textile mechanic at RC Sportswear. Upon his retirement, he and his beloved wife, Laura, relocated to New Port Richey.
A true jack-of-all-trades, Jose was a natural tinkerer and a man who could fix anything. He generously lent his skills to help his daughter Nancy open Caposey's Wholeworks Restaurant and remained a dedicated and valued fixture there for many years, helping with shopping, bank deposits, and countless repairs. His most cherished tradition was keeping the beloved Christmas train in pristine condition that delighted patrons year after year. He was adored by the staff and customers alike, who affectionately called him "Pi." In his downtime, he enjoyed tending to his pristine lawn, reading his Popular Mechanics magazine, and watching World Wrestling Entertainment, Abbott and Costello, and classic western movies.
Jose was the beloved husband of 55 years to the late Laura (Mendes) Dias, who passed away in 2016. He was a loving father to Tony Dias, Maria Fatima Caputo and her husband Lee, and Nancy Caposey and her former husband John. He was a devoted grandfather to Alyssa Caputo, Ayla Caputo, Trevor Kearney, and Matthew Caposey. He also leaves behind many loving extended family members and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held privately by his family in Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jose’s memory to the Gulfside Hospice of Pasco County.
